What is the purpose of this test?
The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Qualitative, PCR test is intended to detect the presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in a sample of blood to aid in the diagnosis of EBV infections. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction, a process that copies and reproduces DNA. A Qualitative PCR test is extremely sensitive and can detect the presence of a specific DNA segment in a sample of blood or other body tissues and fluids. In this case, it can detect the presence of extremely small amount of the EBV virus. This assists in the early detection of an EBV infection.
