Why is this test important? This test measures abnormal antibodies (ANA) found in the blood. Abnormal antibodies occur when the immune system fails to differentiate between healthy cells and foreign cells (such as viruses, bacteria, toxins and cancer) and results in the immune system mistakenly attacking healthy cells. This triggers an autoimmune disorder.
Who should be tested? Those with family history of autoimmune disease may be more likely to develop one. Symptoms often include fatigue, swelling, joint and muscle pain and inflammation and general malaise. People suffering from these symptoms and those with a family history of autoimmune disorders should consider this test.
What does the test include? This test measures the ANA present in blood.
