Thyroid Antibodies Panel TgAb TPO

Why is this test important? This screening detects and measures the level of specific thyroid auto-antibodies that may exist in your body. The auto-antibodies develop when a person's immune system mistakenly recognizes the thyroid gland as a foreign object, leading to chronic inflammation of the thyroid (thyroiditis), tissue damage and disruption of thyroid function. While elevated thyroid antibodies may be present in some people who exhibit no symptoms, it's important to track the range over time, since rising levels indicate an increase in autoimmune activity.

What does the test include? The HealthCheckUSA thyroid antibodies panel is a blood test that checks the levels of antithyroglubulin AB (TgAb) and thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO). If you are having serial testing done for monitoring purposes, strongly consider having all tests done by HealthCheckUSA, which will ensure the analysis is done by the same laboratory using the same methodology. The full panel of results will be expressed in a range, and can be accessed on the HealthCheckUSA Web site within four business days after a blood test.

Who should be tested? Strongly consider testing if you have a family history of:

If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone production) or hyperthyroidism (too much hormone), consider testing as a means to determine if thyroid antibodies may be contributing to the problem.
